SAAC Happenings for May

Updated: Sep 27, 2024

Hello fellow art lovers,

We're excited to kick off May with a whirlwind of creativity and community engagement! First off, mark your calendars for this Friday, May 3rd, as we host our monthly First Friday event. Join us from 5-7 pm for the opening reception of "Art a Voice: A Mental Health Show." This exhibit delves into the transformative power of art in the realm of mental health, exploring themes of recovery, trauma processing, and the promotion of positive well-being.

But the artistic adventure doesn't stop there! This Saturday, May 4th, we invite kids aged 6-12 to join us for our Saturday Art Lab from 10 am to noon, where they'll unleash their creativity through various hands-on activities. Later in the afternoon, from 3-4 pm, come experience serenity and mindfulness in our galleries with Yoga in the Galleries, a perfect opportunity to rejuvenate your spirit amidst captivating artworks.

Looking further ahead, mark your calendars for May 10th at 6:30 pm for a night of experimental performance, sculpture, and sound installation. "Embracing Entropy," presented by Rob Mertens in collaboration with Ryn Duong, Taylor Hanigosky, Julia Vessey, and Katherine Mills-Yatsko, promises to be a truly immersive artistic experience. This is will also be your last chance to see our current exhibition Staunton Emerging Artist Showcase before it is replaced by an equally amazing exhibition featuring the art of Jane Skafte and Laura Thompson.

Also as summer approaches, don't miss out on Art on the Town over Memorial Day weekend! This is the first of our two annual Art Festivals. Held at the Wharf in picturesque downtown Staunton, Art on the Town hosts dozens of regional and local artists showcasing their finest works and is the best way we can think of to kick off your summer!

Last but certainly not least, save the date for our Gala on June 15th! It's sure to be an evening filled with elegance, entertainment, and, of course, art.

Hope to see you soon at the Art Center!
